The story so far
From Buy The Buds
to Build The Buds.
In 2016, SMiSA launched the Buy The Buds campaign to purchase a majority shareholding in St Mirren Football Club. That was achieved in 2022, when the club became majority-owned by SMiSA — and we still hold 51% of the shares today.
Since that campaign launched almost a decade ago, membership has held steady — from around 1,200 members to a current high of just over 1,400. To make further progress, we need to grow. And with more than 4,000 season ticket holders following recent success on the pitch, the scope to attract members who want a closer relationship with their club has never been greater.
In 2024 the board invited members and non-members into separate focus groups. The feedback was clear: the current model needed to change, with a greater emphasis on projects that benefit the fans' experience and help the club.
Months of work followed. Build The Buds was presented to members in October 2025 and the key proposals were approved by members on 1st November 2025.

The new funding model
Every subscription,
put to work.
With SMiSA's cash reserve currently sitting above the agreed threshold of £500,000, the new funding model takes effect immediately. Going forward, member subscriptions will be distributed as follows:
